Official Statement April 2020
Ireland and indeed the world is currently battling the global pandemic that is COVID-19 and the protection of our publics health is now a priority for all.
With this in mind and following much consultation and deliberation with our partners Waterford Council, An Garda Síochána and the medical team at University Hospital Waterford we have made the very difficult decision to cancel this years event.
As ever WVM’s number one concern is the health and safety of our participants, volunteers and supporters and we believe it would be unwise to expect, with certainty, that we will be in a position to ensure this on June 20th.
We have considered rescheduling the event to a later date however with many other events, both local and national, already scheduled as well as many events now postponed we felt it would be unfair on all involved to do this.
All those already signed up should have received an email from us already (check your junk mail if it’s not in your inbox). You have been offered a deferred place for next year’s event or alternatively a full refund. If you haven’t received the email please pop us a mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will send you instructions for both options.
These are unprecedented times and we have all had to make sacrifices to ensure a better future for everyone…but a better future we shall have and we will look forward with greater anticipation now to seeing you all gather on the Mall in Waterford City, joining in our infamous Viking clap before heading off over the start line on June 26th 2021!
Stay safe and stay healthy.
